Louisville pulls away for win over Pitt
Feb 12, 2015 - 5:46 AM Louisville, KY (SportsNetwork.com) - Montrezl Harrell had 28 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks as ninth-ranked Louisville pulled away for a 69-56 win over Pittsburgh on Wednesday night.Terry Rozier added 22 points and 10 boards for Louisville (20-4, 8-3 ACC), which has won five of its last six games. The Cardinals were coming off Saturday's loss at Virginia.
Wayne Blackshear left early in the game with a hip pointer.
"He has a hip pointer that we thought would be OK and it wasn't," Cardinals coach Rick Pitino said.
Michael Young provided 16 points and Jamel Artis supplied 15 points and nine rebounds for the Panthers (16-9, 5-6), who had a three-game winning streak snapped.
Josh Newkirk hit a jumper and James Robinson knocked down a 3-pointer for a 45-39 Pittsburgh advantage with 12:09 remaining.
"We obviously felt pretty good with about 12 minutes left," Pitt coach Jamie Dixon said.
Louisville, though, responded with a 22-2 run to put the game away.
Harrell, Rozier and Quentin Snider were the only scorers during the burst. Rozier netted 10 points, including six straight at one point, Harrell put in eight and Snider added four. Harrell capped the lengthy surge with a dunk for a 61-47 Cardinals cushion with 4:12 left.
The Cardinals, who led 27-22 at the break, cruised to the victory from there.
Game Notes
Rozier was 10-of-10 from the foul line ... The Cardinals shot an even 50 percent (27-of-54) from the field, but were 0-of-4 from 3-point range ... Five of Pitt's last six opponents have shot 50 percent or better ... Louisville had a 39-29 rebounding advantage.
