Oklahoma rallies to down Texas
Feb 18, 2015 - 5:53 AM Norman, OK (SportsNetwork.com) - Jordan Woodard tallied 13 points and five assists and led a late rally to help No. 17 Oklahoma edge visiting Texas 71-69 to complete a season sweep. The Sooners trailed by six after the final media timeout when Woodard's 3- pointer sparked a 10-0 run to help the hosts put the game away. They scored 13 of 15 before Jonathan Holmes hit from deep at the buzzer.
Buddy Hield shot just 4-for-17 from the field but kept his streak of double- digit scoring efforts in conference play alive with 12 points. Frank Booker and Dinjiyl Walker contributed 10 points apiece off the bench, while TaShawn Thomas and Ryan Spangler each finished with nine.
Oklahoma (18-8, 9-5 Big 12) improved to 12-1 at home this season.
Myles Turner posted his fourth double-double of the season and second straight in the setback, and Kendal Yancy matched a career high with 14 points.
Turner's 17 points, 10 rebounds and six blocks weren't enough for the Longhorns (17-9, 6-7), who had won three straight games.
Neither team led by more than seven points during this back-and-forth affair. Yancy's 3 with 6 1/2 minutes to play gave the Longhorns a 58-51 edge, but Oklahoma countered with seven of the next eight points to pull within one.
From there, Yancy hit another triple and Turner drained two at the free throw line prior to the Sooners' comeback.
Woodard started the rally with a 3. Hield then missed a stepback from the corner, but Thomas was there to corral the offensive rebound and put it back in plus a foul. His free throw tied it at 64.
"I definitely felt the momentum go up," Thomas said. "I feel like Jordan hitting that 3 started it and we just kept riding it."
Out of a timeout, Woodard's reverse layup gave the Sooners a two-point lead, and he found Spangler for another layup inside the final minute.
After Yancy missed the front end of a 1-and-1 with Texas trailing by three late, Hield put the finishing touches on the comeback with two free throws.
Oklahoma led 33-32 at halftime.
