Hoosiers shoot their way past Terrapins
Jan 23, 2015 - 7:38 AM Bloomington, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - Yogi Ferrell went 7-of-8 from beyond the arc en route to 24 points as the 23rd-ranked Indiana Hoosiers took down the No. 13 Maryland Terrapins, 89-70, on Thursday.James Blackmon Jr. added 22 points for the Hoosiers (15-4, 5-1 Big Ten), who shot 60 percent from the field and went 15-of-22 from 3-point range. Troy Williams and Collin Hartman tallied 16 and 15 points, respectively, with Williams also pulling down seven rebounds.
"Extremely proud of our effort and our execution, because Maryland is every bit as good as I thought they were," Indiana coach Tom Crean said.
Jake Layman ended with 13 points for the Terrapins (17-3, 5-2), who had a three-game winning streak snapped. Jared Nickens and Melo Trimble contributed 12 and 10 points, respectively.
"Indiana was terrific all night from the start to the end," Terps coach Mark Turgeon said.
Indiana jumped out to a 12-3 lead, but Maryland fought back and tied the game at 26 with 6:41 left in the first half.
The Hoosiers used an 11-4 spurt to gain control again. Williams tallied seven points during the burst to make it 37-30. The Terrapins, however, scored five of the final six points in the half to get within 38-35.
Indiana created some distance again with a 14-5 run to start the second half. Max Hoetzel capped the surge with a 3-pointer to make it a 52-40 contest.
Maryland never got closer than eight the rest of the way.

Indiana leads the all-time series by a 6-2 margin ... Maryland shot 50.9 percent from the field and went 10-of-20 from beyond the arc ... The Hoosiers have won four straight and are tied with No. 6 Wisconsin for the conference lead.
