"It seemed like we were on our heels too much defensively," Ohio State coach Thad Matta said.

Michigan opened the game on a 7-0 spurt and never looked back. The score was 15-7 when the Wolverines created some distance with a 16-4 run. Kameron Chatman tallied six points during the surge that Andrew Dakich capped with a 3-pointer for a 31-11 edge.

Trailing 49-32, Ohio State used a 14-0 run to make things interesting. Russell tallied eight points during the burst and Bates-Diop's jumper cut the gap to 49-46 with 6:59 to play.
