No. 9 Kansas squeaks past TCU

Mar 13, 2015 - 2:40 AM Kansas City, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - Kelly Oubre Jr. scored a career-high 25 points as ninth-ranked Kansas grinded out a 64-59 win over TCU in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 Tournament.

Landen Lucas had 13 points, seven rebounds and three blocks for the top-seeded Jayhawks (25-7), who advanced to the semifinals without the services of leading scorer Perry Ellis. He missed a second straight game because of a sprained right knee.

"It was obviously a win which we're happy about," KU coach Bill Self said. "We didn't play particularly well."

Kansas will face 16th-ranked Baylor on Friday.

Trey Zeigler had 20 points to lead the Horned Frogs (18-15) but accounted for eight of their 15 turnovers. Chris Washburn posted 10 points, seven rebounds, four steals and three blocks for TCU, which beat Kansas State in the opening round on Wednesday.

Kyan Anderson, the Horned Frogs' leading scorer, was limited to 24 minutes because of foul trouble and finished with only three points.

Frank Mason III hit a long jumper at the end of the first half to put Kansas up 33-26. TCU hung around throughout the second half but it never grabbed the lead.

The Horned Frogs tied the game on three occasions, the last when two Zeigler free throws knotted the score at 51 with 6:42 remaining.

Kansas led by five down the stretch, but TCU trimmed it to 59-57 on a Washburn layup with 1:37 left. Oubre followed with a dunk and Lucas added a slam on a lob from Mason after a turnover by Zeigler.
