Davis, LSU face Samford in Hispanic College Funds Classic
Dec 29, 2006 - 4:36 PM Samford (6-4) at No. 19 LSU (8-3) 8:30 pm ESTBATON ROUGE, Louisiana (Ticker) -- After a disappointing performance against a tough opponent, Glen Davis has taken the Hispanic College Funds Classic by storm.
After two wins in as many days, 19th-ranked LSU will take on Samford on Friday in the final day of the tournament.
In a matchup with Washington freshman center Spencer Hawes on December 20, Davis had his streak of four consecutive double-doubles come to a screeching halt. While Davis collected 12 rebounds, he managed just eight points, a dozen below his season average.
However, Davis has turned it around in the three-day tournament that began on Wednesday. After collecting 26 points and 13 rebounds in Wednesday's win over Wright State, the star forward had 19 and 13 as the Tigers posted a 92-58 rout over Mississippi Valley State.
After beating Mississippi Valley State on Wednesday, Samford lost, 61-50, against Wright State. Randall Gulina scored 16 points for the Bulldogs, who had won their previous four games.
This will be the first meeting between the schools. However, it doesn't figure to be tough for LSU. Samford's last win against a ranked opponent came over then-No.15 St. John's in 1999.
