Durant hopes to lead No. 25 Texas out of slump

Feb 10, 2007 - 3:39 PM Iowa St (12-11) at No. 25 Texas (16-7) 1:30 pm EST

AUSTIN, Texas (Ticker) -- Not even the impressive play of dynamic freshman Kevin Durant has been enough to prevent Texas from losing back-to-back games.

Durant seeks to help the 25th-ranked Longhorns snap the losing streak when they face Iowa State in a Big 12 Conference clash on Saturday.

In nine games against conference foes, Durant is shooting nearly 53 percent (102-of-194) from the floor and averaging 32.6 points and almost 14 rebounds. Overall this season, he averages 25.4 points and 11.6 rebounds.

The Longhorns (16-7, 6-3 Big 12) have been unable to take advantage of Durant's performances in back-to-back losses following a three-game winning streak. They are two games in back of Texas A&M in the Big 12.

Texas is coming off Monday's 100-82 defeat against the Aggies. Durant scored 28 points and grabbed 15 rebounds and fellow freshman D.J. Augustin added 23 points for the Longhorns.

The Cyclones (12-11, 3-6) have dropped six of their last seven contests and are just one game ahead of Baylor and Colorado.

After defeating Baylor last Saturday, Iowa State suffered a 77-55 loss to Missouri on Tuesday. Mike Taylor scored 21 points, Jiri Hubalek added 19 and Wesley Johnson 14 with 10 rebounds.

Texas is 11-1 at home this season, 70-5 here in the last five campaigns and has taken five of the six home matchups against Iowa State.
