Jones paces Kentucky past Oklahoma

Nov 23, 2010 - 7:13 AM Maui, HI (Sports Network) - Terrence Jones scored 29 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and blocked four shots to lead eighth-ranked Kentucky past Oklahoma, 76-64, in the 2010 Maui Invitational at the Lahaina Civic Center.

Jones knocked down 12-of-17 shots while Brandon Knight scored 13 points for the Wildcats (3-0), who will play Washington in the semifinals on Tuesday.

Kentucky has won the three all-time meetings between the schools, with the others coming in 1947 and 1987.

Cade Davis totaled 23 points and six boards and Andrew Fitzgerald chipped in with 14 points for the Sooners (3-1), who had defeated Coppin State, NC Central and Texas Southern before running into their first major test of the young season.

Oklahoma will play Virginia on Tuesday.

Doron Lamb's three-pointer put Kentucky ahead 21-8 a bit more than five minutes into the contest before the Sooners settled in and shaved the lead to 23-18 on a Davis layup at 10:44.

The Wildcats maintained between a six and 10-point cushion before a Knight triple capped a 7-0 spurt to make it a 42-27 game. Kentucky took a 14-point lead into the intermission.

A Jones dunk pushed the Kentucky lead to 59-41 with 12:11 to play in the game before the Sooners ran off the next nine points to halve the deficit three minutes later.

Jones fed Josh Harrelson for a fast break layup that extended Kentucky's lead to 68-55 with 4 1/2 minutes to go before Oklahoma made one last push.

Davis drained a three-pointer to cap a 7-0 spurt that brought the Sooners to within 68-62 with 2:11 remaining.

After Brandon Knight missed the front end of a 1-and-1, Jones blocked a Davis three-point attempt and finished on the other end with a dunk to make it an eight-point Kentucky lead with 1:16 to play.

Oklahoma missed a handful of shots from close range with just under a minute to go before Knight hit two free throws with 43 ticks left to make it a 10- point cushion.

Jones made his final block of the night on a Pledger three-point try and hit 1-of-2 at the line to make it 73-62 just nine seconds later.

Two Lamb free throws and one by Jon Hood sealed the victory, the 2,026th all- time for Kentucky, the most in NCAA history.
