Randall helps Temple down Georgia

Nov 27, 2010 - 3:41 AM Orlando, FL (Sports Network) - Scootie Randall poured in 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds, as 21st-ranked Temple outlasted Georgia, 65-58, in consolation bracket play at the Old Spice Classic.

Ramone Moore added 14 points and eight boards for the Owls (3-1), who opened the tournament with Thursday's loss to California. They will face Texas A&M on Sunday.

Gerald Robinson scored 16 points to pace Georgia (3-2), which got 14 points and seven rebounds from Travis Leslie. Trey Thompkins netted 13 points in the setback.

Temple began the second half up by two and continued to play in front, with the lead reaching 46-35 on Micheal Eric's jumper with 11:15 left.

Robinson countered with a three, and it was a single-digit game down the stretch. The Bulldogs were within 54-51 after Leslie's three-point play with 3:21 on the clock, but Moore made two free throws at the other end. After Leslie missed a jumper, Juan Fernandez drilled a three to widen the gap to 59-51.

Robinson's layup with 1:13 on the clock narrowed Georgia's deficit to 59-55 before Rahlir Jefferson sank a layup at the other end, and the Owls held on from there.

The teams traded six-point runs to start a close first half, which featured seven ties. The Owls scored four of the final six points to take a 31-29 edge into the break.

Eric and Khalif Wyatt each scored 10 for Temple, which shot 49 percent...Georgia made 38.9 percent of its shots...The Owls made only 10-of-20 free throws, while the Bulldogs sank 14-of-20.
