Anderson, Richmond upend Purdue
Nov 28, 2010 - 3:21 AM Hoffman Estates, IL (Sports Network) - Kevin Anderson scored a season-high 28 points and pulled down five rebounds, as the Richmond Spiders took down the 10th-ranked Purdue Boilermakers, 65-54, in the title game of the Chicago Invitational at the Sears Centre Arena.Justin Harper added 14 points and eight boards for the Spiders (6-1), who recorded their first win against a Top-10 team since a 69-68 victory at No. 10 Kansas on January 22, 2004.
Darien Brothers chipped in with 11 points for Richmond, which has won four in a row. The Spiders have won six of their last nine games against ranked opponents dating back to the 2007-08 season.

Purdue's 23-game winning streak in regular-season non-conference games came to an end.
Purdue's awful shooting performance in the first half allowed the Spiders to take charge. The last field goal in the frame for the Boilermakers came with 12:11 remaining when Kelsey Barlow made a layup to cut the gap to 9-8.
Richmond then put together a 13-2 run to create some distance. Harper tallied six points during the surge, which Darrius Garrett capped with a free throw to make it a 22-10 contest with 3:54 left.
Johnson and Barlow each made a pair of free throws before Kevin Smith made a layup for the Spiders to make it a 24-14 contest at the break.
Purdue made just 4-of-25 shots over the initial 20 minutes, while Richmond was good on 10-of-30 shots.
Brothers' trey gave the Spiders a 47-33 lead with 8:44 to play. Purdue, though, responded with nine straight points to make things interesting. Ryne Smith and John Hart bookended the run with a pair of three-pointers to make it a 47-42 contest with 6:55 remaining.
Richmond made sure the Boilermakers didn't come back by putting together an ensuing 9-2 spurt. Francis-Cedric Martel capped the burst with a slam to make it a 56-44 contest with 4:13 remaining.
Purdue never got closer than eight the rest of the way.
