Fredette, No. 18 BYU cruise past Arizona

Dec 12, 2010 - 3:26 AM Salt Lake City, UT (Sports Network) - Jimmer Fredette poured in 33 points and No. 18 BYU built a big lead and cruised to an 87-65 victory over Arizona at EnergySolutions Arena.

Fredette went 11-of-22 from the field and also pulled down a career-high nine rebounds for the undefeated Cougars (10-0), who shot 55.6 percent in the opening 20 minutes to jump out to a 19-point halftime lead.

Kyle Collinsworth and Brandon Davies scored 12 and 11 points, respectively, in BYU's fourth straight double-digit triumph.

Lamont Jones paced Arizona (8-2) with 20 points.

"This year we have really attacked the zone well but could not hit open shots tonight," Arizona head coach Sean Miller said. "We did not convert some early opportunities and it built against us quickly in this environment. We have to move the ball better to be successful."

The Wildcats, who had won their previous three games, were within 14-10 five minutes in following a Kyle Fogg jumper, but they went the next 6 1/2 minutes without scoring.

Collinsworth's bucket jump-started BYU's subsequent 14-0 run, and Charles Abouo's jumper ended the rally with under nine minutes to play.

Fredette culminated a 20-point opening half with four free throws in the final 1:05, extending the margin to 44-25 at the break.

"I was able to have another good game tonight. I was able to shoot the ball well and got started off quickly," Fredette said. "It was a very important game for us to show them that we're for real and that we're ready to play."

The closest Arizona got in the second half was 13 when Jesse Perry hit a jumper for a 59-46 game with just over 12 minutes remaining.

The Cougars scored 10 of the next 13 points to put the game away, as Davies' three-point play resulted in a healthy 68-49 advantage.
