Hamilton guides No. 10 Texas over No. 11 Texas A&M

Jan 20, 2011 - 5:10 AM Austin, TX (Sports Network) - Jordan Hamilton posted 27 points with eight rebounds as No. 10 Texas put an end to No. 11 Texas A&M's 13-game win streak with an 81-60 decision at Frank Erwin Center.

Tristan Thompson poured in 18 points and Gary Johnson chipped in 14 for the Longhorns (15-3, 3-0 Big 12), winners of three straight and nine of 10.

"We were obviously very good tonight. There's no question about it," noted Texas head coach Rick Barnes. "I thought we really did our best from start to finish. Execution was really good on the offensive end and defensively too. It was a really nice team win for us against a great team."

Khris Middleton notched 16 points for the Aggies (16-2, 3-1), who hadn't lost since a two-point defeat to Boston College on November 25. Nathan Walkup had eight points and David Loubeau five boards in the loss.

Texas jumped out to a 12-5 lead less than five minutes in on a Thompson jumper, and extended the advantage to 20-5 when Alexis Wangmene hit two from the line.

The Aggies finally woke up and ripped off a 17-8 run to get within 28-22 after Andrew Darko's three-pointer with 5:24 left in the half. Brown responded with a jumper to start an 11-4 run and Hamilton's three ended it and the Longhorns went to the break up 39-27.

Hamilton began the second half with a triple and Texas' lead soon swelled to 48-31 on a Thompson lay-in before the four-minute mark. It was a 20-point bulge with 12:46 to play as Hamilton sank a jumper, and he added a trey on the next trip down the floor to open up a 58-35 advantage.

The Longhorns held the Aggies at arm's length for the rest of the contest.

"We got whipped; from the first possession to the last possession that was a whipping," said Texas A&M head coach Mark Turgeon. "I thought Texas was fantastic. Tristan Thompson and Jordan Hamilton were off the charts."

Game Notes

Texas shot 66.7 percent from the floor in the second half and hit 58 percent for the game...The Longhorns also won the battle of the boards 33-25 and held the Aggies to 41.5 percent from the field...The home team also improved to 12-1 at home against Texas A&M in the Barnes era, and has begun Big 12 conference action with three straight wins of 20-or-more points for the first time in five seasons.
