Washington handles Arizona in Pac-10 action

Jan 21, 2011 - 6:43 AM Seattle, WA (Sports Network) - Isaiah Thomas filled the scorebook with 22 points, 10 assist and six rebounds to help No. 20 Washington defeat Arizona, 85-68, in a battle of the top two teams in the Pac-10.

Justin Holiday had 22 points for the Huskies (14-4, 6-1 Pac-10) and Matt Bryan-Amaning chipped in with 18 points and seven rebounds. Washington has won two straight and eight of its last nine games.

Derrick Williams posted 22 points and 11 boards for Arizona (15-4, 4-2), which had three-game win streak snapped. Solomon Hill and Lamont Jones had 12 and 10 points, respectively, in the loss.

Bryan-Amaning's hook shot over a defender gave Washington a 51-46 lead slightly more than six minutes into the second half. During the ensuing possession, Williams slammed home a rebound, but Thomas responded with a three-point play to extend the lead to 54-48.

The edge grew on the Huskies next touch after Thomas' slick pass down the lane found a wide open Holiday for a layup with 12:40 left to play.

Thomas continued to find the spotlight as the game approached the midway mark when he made a diving save to keep the ball inbounds, which set up Darnell Gant's trey on the other end for a nine-point edge.

The Huskies were able to blow the game open with just under five minutes left following a Holiday three-pointer making it a 73-61 game. The home team then cruised the rest of the way as the margin never dipped below 10.

After a slow start, Thomas drained a three-pointer, Holiday then stole a lazy cross-court pass to go coast-to-coast for a lay-in and Thomas made a jumper to finish a seven-point run that gave Washington a 13-8 lead with 13:24 left in the first half.

Washington then went on another seven-point run to go up 20-13 inside of nine minutes to play in the first half. Williams's layup with 31 seconds left cut the Huskies lead to 36-31 at the break.

Arizona still owns a 43-25 series advantage over Washington...The Huskies are 10-0 at home this year...Washington shot 51.6 percent in the second half and finished the game making 48.3 percent of its shots while the Wildcats connected on only 40 percent of their shots.
