Tigers home streak reaches 14, top Buffaloes
Feb 6, 2011 - 5:43 AM Columbia, MO (Sports Network) - Kim English led a balanced attack with 21 points in a reserve role, as 14th-ranked Missouri ran its home winning streak to 14 games with an 89-73 triumph over Colorado.Marcus Denmon tallied 17 points for the Tigers (18-5, 4-4 Big 12), who bounced back from setbacks to Texas and Oklahoma State. Missouri also avenged its lone Big 12 North defeat this year, having lost, 89-76, in Boulder back on January 8.
Ricardo Ratliffe ended with 14 points and nine rebounds, while Michael Dixon and Phil Pressey each scored 13 in the win.
"I thought we were pretty active, rotating and doing some things, even when they broke our press," Missouri coach Mike Anderson said. "When we played [at Colorado] they were shooting mostly layups, but here they didn't have many points in the paint. I thought that was a big difference for us."
Alec Burks totaled 21 points for the Buffaloes (15-9, 4-5), who lost for the fifth time in six contests. Marcus Relphorde tallied 13 points and 12 rebounds, while Cory Higgins scored 14 in defeat.
"Well we didn't handle their pressure as well. They're awful good at home," Colorado coach Tad Boyle said. "TheIr record shows it. So we knew we were going to have to try to take care of the ball and keep the crowd out of the game as best we could, and we didn't do a very good job of that."
English, who had struggled of late, finished the game going 6-of-10 from the field, including making half of his six three-point shots. Instead of him starting, the Tigers went with the Pressey brothers duo of Phil and Matt. They were a combined 4-of-13 from the floor.
The Tigers gave up the first four points of the game, but came back with the next 11, capped by a three-point play from Denmon. The difference went to double digits at 36-25 following an English jumper with 3:19 left in the half, and Missouri went to the break with a sizeable 47-31 cushion thanks to a 16- of-32 effort from the field over the initial 20 minutes.
The Buffaloes couldn't close the gap under double digits in the second half.
