Utah State crushes Boise State

Feb 6, 2011 - 4:53 AM Logan, UT (Sports Network) - Tai Wesley recorded 22 points, six rebounds and three steals, as the 22nd-ranked Utah State Aggies dominated the Boise State Broncos, 77-49, at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.

Brockeith Pane and Pooh Williams both scored 10 points for the Aggies (22-2, 11-0 WAC), who have won 28 straight home games. Utah State has also won a school-record 30 consecutive Western Athletic Conference contests at home.

Brady Jardine and Nate Bendall chipped in with eight points apiece for Utah State, which is off to its third-best start in school history. The Aggies have won 17 straight contests.

Robert Arnold had 12 points and five rebounds off the bench for the Broncos (12-11, 5-6), who have lost four in a row. Ryan Watkins donated 11 points and eight boards.

Utah State never looked back after starting the game on a 15-2 run. The Aggies shot a sizzling 66.7 percent from the field over the first 20 minutes to build a 43-21 lead. Boise State made just 30.8 percent of its shots in the first half.

Wesley started the second half with a layup and dunk to make it a 47-21 contest. He recorded consecutive three-point plays with 12:49 remaining to give Utah State a 62-28 margin.

Boise State responded with an ensuing 10-0 run to make the score look somewhat respectable. But Utah State cruised the rest of the way.

Game Notes

USU won the first meeting of the season against the Broncos by a score of 68-59 last month at Taco Bell Arena. Utah State holds a 27-8 advantage over the Broncos dating back to the 1973-74 campaign...The Aggies have won 25 straight league games...Utah State shot 64.3 percent for the game.
