No. 23 Temple remains perfect at home, tops Richmond

Feb 18, 2011 - 2:13 AM Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Ramone Moore scored 24 points and Juan Fernandez was 9-for-10 from the floor en route to a 20-point night, as No. 23 Temple rolled past Richmond, 73-53, at Liacouras Center.

Both teams came in tied for second in the Atlantic-10 Conference, and it was Temple (20-5, 10-2 A-10) that stayed within a game of front-running Xavier thanks in part to a 16-0 run early in the second half.

Scootie Randall netted 10 points before leaving with a foot injury for the Owls, winners of seven straight overall and 20 in a row at home.

Kevin Anderson had 15 points and Justin Harper added 14 for the Spiders (20-7, 9-3), who had won four straight and eight in a row on the road before getting handled by Fran Dunphy's club.

Temple scored eight straight points during a four-minute stretch midway through the first half, with Fernandez's jumper capping the run for a 28-16 lead with under six minutes left.

Dan Geriot hit a three-pointer in the final minute of the half to pull within 38-29, and jumpers from him and Justin Harper cut the Spiders' deficit to five early in the second stanza.

The hosts responded by scoring the next 16 points.

Xavier missed seven consecutive shots during the game-altering flurry and turned it over twice, one coming from a Moore steal that led to a dunk.

Fernandez's three-pointer six minutes in resulted in a healthy 54-33 cushion, and the Owls cruised to the finish line from there.
