Utah State handles Saint Mary's

Feb 20, 2011 - 5:32 AM Moraga, CA (Sports Network) - Tai Wesley and Brockeith Pane both scored 22 points to lead No. 25 Utah State to a 75-65 victory over Saint Mary's-CA in a non-conference battle.

Wesley also brought down 11 rebounds for the Aggies (25-3), who have won three in a row.

Mickey McConnell posted 16 points to lead the Gaels (22-6), who have dropped two in a row. Mitchell Young added 11 points and 11 boards.

Utah State led throughout the early parts of the game, and was up 20-14 after Pane's three-point play with 10:44 to go.

However, the Gaels followed with a 20-2 run to take control. Young scored the final six points of the burst, which had Saint Mary's up 34-22 with 3:32 remaining.

The Gaels carried a 36-27 advantage into the break, and still held a substantial lead about four minutes into the second half, when Rob Jones dropped in a layup for a 41-33 advantage.

The Aggies, though, went on a 10-0 run to move back in front, and the momentum kept swinging their way.

Pane's layup with 8:37 to play ended a nine-point run that had Utah State leading 52-43, and the visitors' lead touched double digits multiple times over the next few minutes.

The Gaels trimmed their deficit to 65-59 with 2:44 left, after Clint Steindl buried a three. However, Brady Jardine answered with a three-point play for Utah State, which held on from there.
