No. 18 Vandy drops LSU
Feb 26, 2011 - 11:41 PM Baton Rouge, LA (Sports Network) - Jeffery Taylor scored 20 points to lead five Commodores in double figures, as No. 18 Vanderbilt dropped LSU, 90-69.Lance Goulbourne scored 16 points and pulled down 17 rebounds for Vanderbilt (21-7, 9-5 SEC), which bounced back from Tuesday's home loss to Tennessee.
John Jenkins netted 17 points, Brad Tinsley had 16 and Festus Ezeli added 15 as part of a Commodores effort that shot 54 percent from the field, including 10-of-22 from three-point range.
Storm Warren and Ralston Turner tallied 24 and 18 points, respectively, but were shut down in the second half as the Tigers (11-18, 3-11) fell for the 11th time in 12 games.
"We were much better defensively in the second half. We made the adjustment by putting Festus (Ezeli) on (Storm) Warren and he didn't bother us as much in the second half. Jeff (Taylor) was much better on (Ralston) Turner in the second half than he was in the first half," Vanderbilt head coach Kevin Stallings said of the halftime adjustments.
Warren and Turner combined for 32 points in the first half, while Vanderbilt had a more balanced attack and trailed 43-41 at halftime.
LSU scored on its first possession of the second half, but the Commodores rattled off the next 14 points over a four-minute stretch.
Taylor scored six during the run and his dunk gave the visitors a 55-45 lead.
The Tigers had the deficit down to three, 59-56, following a Warren jumper, but Vanderbilt got hot from behind the three-point line, hitting three from long distance on consecutive possessions to go up by 12 near the midway point.
Jenkins hit the last one during the run and made another a little later, and the Commodores cruised from there.
"We just couldn't guard them. We couldn't guard [Jeffrey] Taylor and couldn't guard [Brad] Tinsley," LSU head coach Trent Johnson said.
