No. 1 Indiana downs Iowa

Mar 3, 2013 - 6:11 AM Bloomington, IN (Sports Network) - Cody Zeller recorded a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds, as No. 1 Indiana bounced back from Wednesday's setback with a 73-60 triumph over Iowa Saturday at Assembly Hall.

Coming off a 77-73 loss at Minnesota, the Hoosiers (25-4, 13-3 Big Ten) received a career-high 19 points from Yogi Ferrell and 10 points and eight boards from Victor Oladipo to increase their lead atop the Big Ten to 1 1/2 games.

Indiana hosts No. 16 Ohio State on Tuesday before wrapping up the regular season with a tough road test against fourth-ranked Michigan next weekend.

Roy Devyn Marble led the Hawkeyes (18-11, 7-9) with 20 points, while Aaron White added 14 points and seven boards for Iowa, which has lost two of its last three games.

Both teams shot under 30 percent and went a combined 0-for-14 from beyond the arc in the first half, but the Hawkeyes had twice as many turnovers (14) as made field goals (7) in the frame en route to a season-low 14 points after 20 minutes.

"There were too many turnovers in the first half," Iowa coach Fran McCaffery admitted. "We were not in sync offensively, but at the same time I'm really proud of our fight."

The Hoosiers did their damage from the free throw line, going 10-of-17 from the charity stripe to build a 26-14 cushion at the break.

A Marble 3-pointer brought the Hawkeyes within 32-23 just under 3 1/2 minutes into the second half, but the Hoosiers quickly pushed the margin to 14 with five straight points.

The visitors failed to get closer than 12 from there until a Marble jumper sparked a 6-0 Iowa surge to bring the Hawkeyes within 62-52 with 3:41 left.

The Hoosiers held firm there, however, never allowing the lead to shrink below double digits to hang on for the victory.

"The thing that kept us going was our defense," Zeller said. "We kept getting stops on the defensive end. We struggled at times on our offense but when you're getting stops you're going to win."

Game Notes

Michigan State and Wisconsin are tied for second behind Indiana in the Big Ten. The Spartans and Badgers both play Sunday before facing off Tuesday in East Lansing ... The teams combined to go 3-for-27 from long range overall, with Iowa finishing 1-of-13 ... Indiana shot 38.9 percent (21-for-54) from the field, while Iowa shot 38.2 percent (21-for-55) from the floor.
