Withey leads Kansas in demolition of Texas Tech

Mar 5, 2013 - 4:45 AM Lawrence, KS (Sports Network) - Jeff Withey had 22 points and nine rebounds and led No. 4 Kansas to a 79-42 rout over Texas Tech on Monday.

Withey shot 8-for-9 from the field for the Jayhawks (26-4, 14-3 Big 12), who extended their winning streak to seven games. Kevin Young had 14 points and grabbed six boards, while Travis Releford and Ben McLemore scored 13 points apiece.

"Today has been kind of crazy," said Withey. "The game was fun and we played hard. For me personally (the thought of the last home game) hasn't hit me. I don't think it will for a little while. The Fieldhouse has been good to us and the fans have been good to us. This is going to be a night that we will remember for a long time."

Jordan Tolbert had 16 points and was the only player in double figures for the Red Raiders (10-18, 3-14), who have lost 10 of their last 11 games.

"It's the most difficult situation probably in college basketball to come to Kansas on senior night, No. 4 in the country, a place with storied tradition and a great coach," said Red Raiders coach Chris Walker. "Obviously, we're still building and it was a little tough for our guys."

Kansas pulled away from this game early. Up 13-10 with 10:54 left in the first half, the Jayhawks scored the Red Raiders by a 32-10 margin over the rest of the frame to lead 45-20 at halftime.

Withey scored 12 points in the first half.

The onslaught would continue in the second half, as Kansas went on a 16-3 run in the first 6 1/2 minutes to build a 61-23 advantage.

Texas Tech cut the deficit to 63-35 with 9:31 left to play, but the Red Raiders couldn't close the gap any further.
