Rodriguez helps Kansas State down TCU

Mar 6, 2013 - 5:15 AM Manhattan, KS (Sports Network) - Angel Rodriguez had 21 points and 10 assists and led No. 9 Kansas State to a 79-68 win against TCU on Tuesday.

Rodriguez shot 8-of-13 from the field, including 5-of-10 from three-point range. Martavious Irving and Shane Southwell scored 15 points apiece and Rodney McGruder added 13 for the Wildcats (25-5, 14-3 Big 12), who are on a six-game winning streak.

Kansas State is now tied with Kansas for the top spot in the conference standings as it closes out the regular season on Saturday at No. 13 Oklahoma State.

"It feels good, but these next two days of practice we really have to get back to it and back to our style of basketball," McGruder said on how it feels to compete for a Big 12 championship. "Like coach said, this was not one of our most impressive wins, but we came out with a W. Now, we have to get back to our brand of basketball and try to win the Big 12 regular season title."

Kyan Anderson had a game-high 29 points and Devonta Abron recorded 10 points and eight rebounds off the bench for the Horned Frogs (10-20, 1-16), who have lost 16 of their last 17 games.

"I was just going through the offense and taking what was given to me," Anderson said. "I just tried to capitalize on every open shot that I could take and just be aggressive."

Kansas State started out strong, outscoring Baylor by a 17-5 margin in the first seven minutes of the game.

By halftime, the Wildcats extended their lead to 42-27.

TCU came back in the second half, though, as they opened up the frame on a 12-2 run and cut the deficit to 44-39 with 14 1/2 minutes left in regulation.

Anderson scored 14 points for TCU in the remaining minutes but despite his performance, the Horned Frogs weren't able to close the gap any further.
