Booker and Dinwiddie lead Colorado past Oregon
Jan 6, 2014 - 4:08 AM Boulder, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - Askia Booker scored 27 points and Spencer Dinwiddie added 23 as No. 20 Colorado held off 10th-ranked Oregon, 100-91, on Sunday.Josh Scott and Xavier Johnson both scored 15, with Scott also grabbing 12 rebounds for the Buffaloes (13-2, 2-0 Pac-12), winners in three straight.
"Our guys really hung in there when we got down in the second half. This team has toughness, they have resilience and they believe in each other," said Colorado coach Tad Boyle. "We were kind of at the brink there when we called the timeout and we were down by 10. Our guys responded. I'm really proud of our team ... We beat a good team today."
Mike Moser dropped in 24 points while Joseph Young and Dmyean Dotson added 16 points apiece for the Ducks (13-1, 1-1), who have lost four straight to Colorado.
"I think we just got complacent with the lead and ended up giving them easy baskets," said Moser.
Colorado led 10-8, but a 13-4 Oregon run made it 21-12 with 10:15 remaining. The Buffs cut the lead to five points moments later, and Dinwiddie scored the next seven points to pull Colorado within 25-23.
A trey from Booker followed by a Johnson layup put Colorado ahead 28-27. The Ducks briefly took the lead back after a Dotson slam, but the Buffs scored the next nine points for a 39-31 lead. Oregon, however, closed the gap with an 11-5 swing to go into the break trailing 44-42.
Oregon opened the second half on a 16-4 run to open up a 58-48 lead, but Colorado countered with a 24-8 burst, led by three Dinwiddie treys, to go up 72-66.
The Ducks got within two, 74-72, but the Buffaloes went on a 6-0 spurt. Scott's free throw with 5:01 to play made it an 80-72 contest.
Oregon never got closer than five the rest of the way.
