No. 3 Florida handcuffs helpless Aggies

Feb 2, 2014 - 1:37 AM Gainesville, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Michael Frazier II registered a game- high 21 points to go with eight rebounds, as No. 3 Florida cruised to its 13th straight victory with a 69-36 decision over Texas A&M on Saturday at O'Connell Center.

Patric Young celebrated his 22nd birthday with a nine-point, 14-rebound effort, while Dorian Finney-Smith supplied 11 points and nine boards off the bench for the Gators (19-2, 8-0 SEC), who have won a school-record 27 in a row at home.

"You can see that we're making strides in the right direction, especially here at home," Young said. "No one, I think, is going to be able to touch us here at home if we keep playing like this."

Florida held Texas A&M to 25.9 percent shooting (14-of-54) from the field and outrebounded the Aggies, 57-27, en route to securing its third 19-2 start in school history.

"We didn't give up very many offensive rebounds at all which was good," Florida head coach Billy Donovan said of the disparity on the glass. "I thought our guys on the backboard did a good job."

Kourtney Roberson and Jamal Jones each scored seven to lead Texas A&M (12-9, 3-5), which has dropped five straight games.

"We have to be able to put the ball in the hole and make free throws, make layups, make open shots," Texas A&M head coach Bill Kennedy said when asked how his team can snap its current slide.

The Aggies kept it close early and trailed by just two, 14-12, following Davonte Fitzgerald's jumper near the midpoint of the first half.

However, Texas A&M managed just two field goals over the final 10-plus minutes off the first frame, allowing the Gators to close the stanza on a decisive 20-5 burst.

Young supplied six points in the surge, which Casey Prather capped with a layup to send Florida into the break with a 34-17 lead.

The Gators put the game away early in the second, as Scottie Wilbekin and Frazier combined on a 10-1 run to open the half, giving the Gators a 44-18 spread just over three minutes into the final frame.

Florida extended the margin to 30 near the midpoint of the half before cruising to victory down the stretch.
