Foster powers KSU past No. 15 Texas
Feb 9, 2014 - 1:22 AM Manhattan, KS (SportsNetwork.com) - Freshman Marcus Foster scored a personal- best 34 points on 13-of-16 shooting to power Kansas State in a 74-57 mauling of No. 15 Texas at Bramlage Coliseum. No other Kansas State player reached double figures, but Will Spradling finished with nine points and four steals and the trio of Wesley Iwundu, Nino Williams and D.J. Johnson supplied eight points apiece.
"We knew it was going to happen," Kansas State head coach Bruce Weber said of Foster having a breakout game. "The thing that I like is that he has gotten a little better about being more patient, waiting for good shots. He is our go- to guy."
Iwundu added a career-high eight assists and Thomas Gipson had 11 rebounds as the Wildcats (16-7, 6-4 Big 12) notched their 12th straight home win.
Isaiah Taylor had 17 points to pace Texas (18-5, 7-3), which had won seven games in a row and lost top scorer Jonathan Holmes to a right knee injury.
Holmes hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to send the Longhorns to a 67-64 win over then-No. 22 Kansas State on Jan. 21. He opened the scoring Saturday with his only two points, but the Wildcats responded with an 18-2 surge and never looked back.
A Williams jumper made it 37-14 and Kansas State settled for a 39-18 halftime lead after holding Texas to 25 percent shooting (5-of-20).
"They played harder, with more energy," Texas head coach Rick Barnes said of the Wildcats. "They were more physical and they beat us in every category."
The Wildcats shot 56.5 percent in the second half and led by as many as 26 points.
