Dekker boosts Badgers over Hoosiers
Feb 26, 2014 - 6:36 AM Madison, WI (SportsNetwork.com) - Sam Dekker had 16 points and seven rebounds as No. 14 Wisconsin took a 69-58 victory over Indiana in Big Ten action on Tuesday.Traevon Jackson had 14 points, Ben Brust added 12 while Josh Gasser gave 11 for the Badgers (23-5, 10-5 Big Ten), who have won six straight games.
Yogi Ferrell scored 24 points and Noah Vonleh gave 18 points with six rebounds for the Hoosiers (15-12, 5-9), who have lost four of their last five.
Wisconsin trailed by 10 entering the second half, but started the second half with a 17-6 run to take the lead.
After Stanford Robinson converted a three-point play to give the lead back to the Hoosiers, Frank Kaminsky made two from the line and Brust followed with a 3-pointer to give the Badgers the lead for good.
Leading by three, Dekker hit a jumper with under nine minutes to play to kick off 12 straight points for the Badgers, as Jackson capped the run with a 3 for a 58-43 lead with 3 1/2 to play.
"We had our plan of what we wanted to do on isolations and we didn't get into it a couple times quick enough," said Indiana head coach Tom Crean. "Not only can all their starters shoot the ball, but they can pass the ball."
Wisconsin maintained a double-digit lead for the remainder of the game to take home the victory.
"I mentioned that if we made some good shots, good things will happen," said Wisconsin head coach Bo Ryan. "But there were a couple things defensively that we knew we could do better. It was just a reminder that when the shots aren't going in, the thing was I thought they still paid attention, they didn't get down and they didn't haywire."
A 10-2 run from the Badgers gave the team a 12-9 lead, but the Hoosiers answered with a 10-3 run and later scored seven unanswered points to eventually take a 29-19 lead into the locker room.
