No. 25 Providence tops Marquette

Mar 1, 2015 - 10:49 PM Providence, RI (SportsNetwork.com) - LaDontae Henton had 25 points and 15 rebounds and No. 25 Providence rolled to a 77-66 win over Marquette on Sunday.

Kris Dunn scored 16 points and Tyler Harris added 13 off the bench for the Friars (20-9, 10-6 Big East), who were coming off an 89-61 loss to No. 6 Villanova on Tuesday, a day after entering the Associated Press rankings for the first time this season.

Duane Wilson scored 22 points and Matt Carlino had 21 for the Golden Eagles (11-17, 3-13), who have lost five games in a row and 11 of their last 12.

Providence trailed by five points 9 1/2 minutes into the game but dominated the rest of the first half to take control.

The Friars took the lead for good on Henton's jumper with 7:39 remaining in the half. That came during a 7-0 flurry that was part of a larger 20-7 run to end the half.

Harris had 11 points off the bench to lead Providence to a 40-29 advantage at the break.

The lead reached as high as 24 points in the second half. Marquette got as close as five on a Carlino 3-pointer with two minutes remaining, but didn't score after that.

Providence has at least 20 wins in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 1992-93 and 1993-94 ... Marquette beat Providence 75-66 on Jan. 3 in Milwaukee and leads the all-time series 14-6 ... Providence has two games remaining in the regular season: at Seton Hall on Wednesday and home against No. 23 Butler on Saturday ... Marquette played its last road game. The Golden Eagles will finish up at home against St. John's on Wednesday and DePaul on Saturday.
