Nickname: Cowboys. Coach: Travis Ford.

Conference: Big 12.

Key returners: Phil Forte averaged 15 points per game last season, but he will play without an established star for the first time. Jeff Newberry, a senior, averaged 6.7 points per game last season and will be looked to for more scoring.

Who left: Top scorer Le'Bryan Nash is gone and playing in Japan. He was a versatile player who could score in the paint. Forward Michael Cobbins, one of the best interior defenders in the nation, also is gone.

The Skinny: Oklahoma State likely will go as far as talented freshman point guard Jawun Evans takes it. The McDonald's All-American is wowing folks in practice. If he's as good as advertised, the Cowboys could be a surprise in the Big 12.
