Texas Tech
Last season: 13-19.
Nickname: Red Raiders. Coach: Tubby Smith.
Conference: Big 12.
Key returners: Devaugntah Williams likely will be the go-to scoring guard after leading the Red Raiders with 10.5-point average last season. Justin Gray, who led the Red Raiders in scoring until knee tendinitis forced him from the starting lineup, had surgery and could add a big spark. Center Norense Odiase may have a couple of big men to help him out in the lane. Academic eligibility issues need to be cleared up for 6-10 Matthew Temple and 6-11 Rokas Ulvyda.
Who left: Robert Turner, a juco transfer and the second-leading scorer last year (8.3 ppg), graduated. Gone too is Clark Lammert, a walk-on recruited by Pat Knight who played for three different coaches and was a team leader. Two players, Randy Onwuasor and Alex Foster, left the program.
The Skinny: The Red Raiders are aiming for a big turnaround. They haven't had a winning overall record since 2009-10 and it was the 2006-07 season when they last had a winning conference record. Smith's only two losing seasons in 24 years have come in back-to-back years in Lubbock.
No one has shouted yet.
