Missouri
Last season: 9-23.
Nickname: Tigers
Coach: Kim Anderson
Conference: Southeastern
Key returners: Guard Wes Clark, 10.1 points per game, coming off shoulder injury. Forward Jakeenan Gant and guard Namon Wright were high-level recruits a year ago who haven't yet emerged as go-to players. Among the new faces are junior college transfer Martavian Payne, who shot 40 percent from 3-point range and averaged 15.7 points last season, and Terrence Phillips, who averaged 8.7 assists senior year and helped Oak Hill Academy win 88 games his last two high school seasons.
Who left: F Johnathan Williams, who led the team in scoring and rebounding, transferred to Gonzaga. G Montaque Gill-Caesar, who was third on the team with a 9.1-point average, transferred to San Diego State. G Keith Shamburger averaged 8.8 points his senior year.
The Skinny: The new faces will help, but scoring punch will be hard to come by without Williams, Shamburger and Gill-Caesar. The Tigers also have a non-conference schedule that includes games against Xavier, Arizona and North Carolina State mixed in with games Missouri would be expected to win. A year ago, the Tigers ended their season with a loss in their SEC Tournament opener and that could very well be the case again this year.
