UCF fires coach Donnie Jones following loss in AAC tourney
Mar 11, 2016 - 4:46 PM ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) UCF has fired basketball coach Donnie Jones following a loss to Tulane in the American Athletic Conference Tournament.UCF athletic director Danny White made the announcement Thursday night, shortly after the Knights lost 65-63 in the first round of the conference tournament in Orlando. UCF lost nine of its final 10 games this season and finished 12-18, including 6-12 in league play.
Jones went 100-88 in six seasons at UCF, leading the program to two postseason berths. His 21 victories during the 2010-11 season were vacated due to NCAA sanctions, so he technically went 79-88 with the Knights.
White says ''after a great deal of thought and deliberation, we have determined that a change in leadership for our men's basketball program is necessary.''
