Syracuse frosh Malachi Richardson to enter name in NBA draft
Apr 18, 2016 - 8:07 PM SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) Freshman guard Malachi Richardson of the Syracuse Orange is entering his name into the NBA draft but will not sign with an agent.Coach Jim Boeheim says with the new rules it's an opportunity for Richardson to get a better understanding of where he would be in the draft.
Student-athletes can enter their name in the draft prior to April 24 and then will have until May 25 to withdraw their names, as long as they have not signed with an agent. The new rules also permit a student-athlete to participate in one tryout per NBA team prior to May 25.
Richardson started all 37 games and averaged 13.4 points, 4.3 rebounds and 34.4 minutes. He also hit 79 3-pointers, the third-best total by a freshman at Syracuse, and played an important role in Syracuse's march to the NCAA Final Four.
The Orange finished 23-14, losing to North Carolina in the national semifinals.
