Marquette guard Wally Ellenson leaving basketball team
Apr 21, 2016 - 11:31 PM MILWAUKEE (AP) Marquette says guard Wally Ellenson is no longer on the basketball team, but will remain on full scholarship with the school's track and field team until graduation.Coach Steve Wojciechowski in a statement on Thursday thanked Ellenson and wished the junior luck on the rest of his season competing in the high jump.
Ellenson averaged 1.9 points in his only basketball season at Marquette, playing in 29 games following a redshirt season. He transferred before the 2014-15 season after two years at Minnesota.
His departure from basketball comes more than two weeks after his younger brother, Henry, decided to leave Marquette after his freshman season to enter the NBA draft.
Henry Ellenson was a highly touted recruit out of Rice Lake, Wisconsin. He was the Big East's freshman of the year.
