Crittenton, Georgia Tech roll over Georgia State
Nov 17, 2006 - 1:40 AM ATLANTA (Ticker) -- Coach Paul Hewitt is getting immediate results from his McDonald's All-Americans.Thaddeus Young scored 19 points and fellow freshman Javaris Crittenton added 18 as No. 21 Georgia Tech rolled to a 103-74 victory over Georgia State.
The Yellow Jackets (3-0), who have won their first three games by an average margin of 31 points, beat Georgia State for the 12th straight time.
Hewitt's recruitment of Young and Crittenton has raised expectations at Georgia Tech. Crittenton did most of the damage against the Panthers, scoring all of his points on 7-of-7 shooting in the first half when the Yellow Jackets built a 58-30 lead.
"A lot of the shots came off of good penetration," Crittenton said. "We just did a good job of rotating and passing the ball to each other, and when the opportunity came, we knocked down shots."
The 6-5 guard had 12 points and 10 assists in Monday's 100-70 win over Jackson State. Crittenton dished out nine assists against Georgia State.
It was just the fourth time in school history that the Yellow Jackets recorded back-to-back 100-point games, and the first since December of 1994.
Young scored 12 of his points in the second half.
"Thaddeus found his rhythm in the second half," Crittenton said. "I knew he was hot and I was trying to find him. He knocked down the shot every time the ball got to him. In the first half, I was hot and my teammates were finding me. The second half was time for me to distribute the ball more."
Sophomore Lewis Cinch led Georgia Tech with 20 points.
Lance Perique scored 22 points and Rashad Chase added 18 and eight rebounds for the Panthers (0-2), who shot 43 percent (22-of-51).
The Yellow Jackets shot 56 percent (41-of-73) and made 13-of-24 from the arc. They next travel to Maui for the EA Sports Maui Invitational, which starts Monday.
"Overall, I'm very pleased with 3-0," Hewitt said. "Now we've got a very good test coming up on Monday."
