Corpus Christi ranks 18th in the country in turnover percentage, and they could have a boatload of opportunities here as Texas Southern is 333rd in offensive turnover percentage.

However, if the turnovers do not result in fast breaks, the Islanders may struggle to put up points. They are 287th in adjusted offensive efficiency and 288th in effective field goal percentage. Those numbers are not pretty, especially when you’re facing a defense like Texas Southern’s. The Tigers are 13th in effective field goal percentage allowed and excel in defending, contesting, and blocking shots from any area. While the Islanders may have plenty of missed shots, they happen to be one of the best teams at cleaning up their misses as they rank 16th in offensive rebounding rate.

Texas Southern is much like their opposition as they rely on their defense to hold their opponents enough just to outscore them, but the Tigers fared well offensively against their conference this season. They accomplish their style of play on both ends of the floor by utilizing a deep rotation of players to stay fresh. The Tigers’ offense may not be much to talk about, but they have shown that they can score and defend with teams well beyond their status. Texas Southern holds a victory over Florida and lost to Saint Mary’s, Washington, and NC State by double digits. So, if anything, they are indeed the more battle-tested team.
