Reid Ducharme is just the start of a big week for Xavier recruiting

As has been noted by most reputable and many disreputable outlets, Reid Ducharme committed to Xavier on Friday. He’s the second member of the Muskies’ 2023 class, joining scoring point guard Trey Green, who committed earlier in the summer. Both players are rated as solid four-star guys with room to develop.

Ducharme is a 6’7” wing out of Brewster Academy who also held offers from Penn State and Syracuse as the other two components in his final three, having thinned UConn, Creighton, DePaul, Providence, and others from his list earlier on. He showed high-level talent at the Nike Peach Jam this summer, dropping 22 a game against good competition.

First and foremost, he is known as a shooter. He has shown a good jumper since early in his high school career, setting himself apart from his peers with a consistent stroke from range. He has grown into above-average athleticism and plays above the rim when he attacks off the bounce or the rip. He has been described as naturally strong and willing to play through contact.

One thing that has come up in recent scouting reports is his toughness and competitive nature. He does the little things that win basketball games and competes hard for 50-50 balls in a way that will endear him to the Xavier faithful.

With Ducharme locked in, attention turns to the upcoming announcement of Dailyn Swain. He’s a 6’6” four-star guard out of Columbus who has impressed with his ball skills for a man of his size. He averaged 21/8/5 with 3 steals last year and posted 10/4/3.5 with 2 steals per game on 51% shooting on the Nike EYBL circuit over the summer. His top five are Xavier, Arizona State, Clemson, Arkansas, and OSU, but people on the know are backing the Muskies to land him.

After the Steele Era of watching the team huck hopeless meteors in the general vicinity of the rim from behind the arc, Sean Miller seems keen on loading up on shooters. Ducharme and incoming freshman Kam Craft have similar scouting reports, and Trey Green is a sniper from the point. With Kunkel, Boum, and Nunge definitely on the way out and the possibility of Colby Jones and Zach Freemantle joining them if they play to their potential, Sean Miller has a lot of playing time to sell to the next couple of classes. There’s no such thing as a sure thing in recruiting, but the general consensus is that he has the right guys buying it so far.
