UConn basketball’s First Night set for Oct. 14

UConn basketball announced that its annual First Night event to kick off the start of basketball season is set for Friday, October 14 at Gampel Pavilion.

The school announced that the event will once again be primarily for students, with season ticket holders able to claim a limited number of tickets. The event will also once be streamed through FloSports. Student ticket claim opens on Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 9:30 a.m., while season ticket holders are able to claim tickets on Thursday, Oct. 6 beginning at 10:00 a.m.

Doors open at 6:00 p.m. for the event, but students can begin lining up at 2:00 p.m. and there will be a block party on Jim Calhoun Way that starts at 5:00 p.m.

First Night will officially kick off at 7:00 p.m. and will feature player introductions along with a 3-point and dunk contest with guest judges. Players on the men’s and women’s basketball team will be drafted into blue and white squads to compete in the contests, with Andre Jackson leading the White Team and Paige Bueckers captaining the Blue team. Let’s hope that UConn can get the stanchions to work properly to avoid a repeat of last year’s fiasco.
