Connecticut continues feast on cupcakes

Nov 29, 2006 - 3:28 PM Sacred Heart (2-3) at No. 15 Connecticut (5-0) 7:30 pm EST

STORRS, Connecticut (Ticker) -- In the midst of a soft pre-conference schedule, Connecticut will take on another mid-major in-state opponent.

The young 15th-ranked Huskies will face Sacred Heart at Gampel Pavilion on Wednesday.

Connecticut, which has eight freshman on its team, will take on its third local opponent after defeating Quinnipiac on November 10 and Fairfield eight days later. The Huskies will not play a conference game until December 30 or a ranked opponent until January 6.

Freshman Gavin Edwards scored 16 points and fellow first-year players Jerome Dyson and Hasheem Thabeet added 12 each as the Huskies posted an 86-55 victory over Albany on Sunday.

Connecticut, which extended its home winning streak to 24 games, was playing Albany in a rematch of a surprisingly close meeting in the first round of the NCAA Tournament last season.

The Pioneers also had their way with Albany in their last contest on November 21. Chauncy Hardy and Joey Henley scored 15 points apiece in a 90-71 victory over the Great Danes.

The Huskies have won the previous four meetings with Sacred Heart, including a 73-55 victory in Hartford in 2004.
