Best College Basketball Bets for Saturday

Kentucky vs. Tennessee Team Total O/U

Back on January 3rd, Terrence Oglesby provided the following thread on Twitter that expertly dissected the problems with the Kentucky offense.

Since that date, the Wildcats have lost consecutive games against Alabama and South Carolina, averaging just 60 points in the process. On top of what Oglesby diagnosed as Kentucky’s biggest problems, reigning Player of the Year Oscar Tshiebwe has not looked like himself since returning from a preseason knee injury. Tshiebwe averaged 17.4 points and 15.1 rebounds last year but is down to 16.0 points and 13.1 rebounds. However, that does not tell the whole story, as he combined for 12 points on 5-of-19 shooting in games against two of the Wildcats’ best defensive opponents (UCLA and Alabama).

Now the deficient Kentucky offense faces a Tennessee team leading the country in adjusted defensive efficiency, effective field goal percentage defense, and 3-point percentage allowed (20.9%). This one should be ugly to watch if you are a Wildcats fan.

With Tennessee being -11.5 favorites and the O/U set at 130.5, the implied score is 70-59.5. Thus, we would play Kentucky’s team total at that number, and down slightly further to 59.

Bet: Kentucky Team Total Under 59.5 (play down to 59) (-110 at DraftKings)

Providence vs. Creighton Spread

Creighton already had one of the shortest rotations in the country, as it ranks 344th in bench minutes. Now the Bluejays are playing their third game in a week after facing the bruising Huskies of UConn and the up-tempo and frenetic-paced Musketeers of Xavier. Head coach Greg McDermott has a tall task to get his players ready to meet a Friars team that is one of two unbeaten teams in the league and a well-rested one that has yet to play since last Saturday. Many bettors will look at Creighton’s recent home success and suggest it is the right side. Still, Providence will provide much more resistance than the three league opponents (Butler, DePaul, and Seton Hall) Creighton beat by a combined 59 points at home before the losing streak began.

Providence has covered each of its last four road games, and eight of its last nine overall. Conversely, Creighton is just 1-5 ATS in its previous six games against teams with a winning percentage over .600.

Bet: Providence +7 (-110 at DraftKings)

Duke vs. Clemson Spread

Clemson is 6-0 in ACC play for the first time since the conference was formed in 1953 and has serious aspirations of claiming its second-ever regular season title. The Tigers are built to limit one of Duke’s biggest strengths, as they are strong on the defensive glass (38th in offensive rebounding percentage allowed), while the Blue Devils secure 39% of their misses (fourth-most). In addition, Tigers head coach Brad Brownell has arguably the best 3-point shooting team in his tenure (38.9% ranks 12th in the country), and his team has the size (97th in average height) to contend with 7-footer Kyle Filipowski and 6’10” Ryan Young.

The favorite is 5-2 ATS in the last seven meetings between these teams, and Duke has failed to cover any of its previous four road games.

Bet: Clemson -1.5 (-110 at DraftKings)
