College Basketball Betting Odds, Picks & Predictions: Friday (1/20)

As we are deep in the college basketball season, now is the time to use the plethora of data to get going on winning some money. I hope that successfully betting on college basketball was part of your New Year’s resolution because I will be providing successful plays up until the end of the season. It is quite the slow Friday slate so remember not to force any bets you don’t love, there is still plenty of season left.

Today’s Best College Basketball Bets

Here are my best bets for today’s men’s college basketball slate. 

Boise State vs. New Mexico

In arguably the game of the day we have two Mountain West squads going at it in hopes of continuing to build their at-large resumes.

Boise State has been on fire of late, winning five straight without breaking much of a sweat, they rank 26th in the Haslametrics momentum metric, and play surprisingly well away from home. New Mexico stumbled a bit, suffering their first two losses of the season earlier this month but have bounced back with three straight wins.

I truly see this game coming down to the wire. New Mexico plays fast, but Boise State should be able to tame the Lobos with their 11th-ranked defense. The Broncos will eliminate second-chance looks and shouldn’t allow as many free chances at the charity stripe as New Mexico is accustomed to. This is a coin flip for me, so give me the underdog. 

Play: Boise State +2.5 (-110)

Villanova vs. St. John’s

The tortoise and the hare is a tale of old and you will see it play out tonight with the 2nd fastest team in St. John’s against the 314th-fastest team in Villanova. And while slow and steady wins the race in the story, I’m not sure that’s how it will play out on the court tonight.

Nova continues getting the blue blood love. How could you possibly bet against them as an underdog, right? This number should be closer to six in my mind, considering the Wildcats rank 77th in KenPom.

With St. John’s breakneck pace, there is a bit less variability here and I trust them to cover a bit more than I would other teams. St. John’s does a ton of their scoring inside, where Nova’s defense ranks 247th. I expect the hare to win the race it’s supposed to win. 

Play: St. John’s -4.5 (-110)
