College Basketball Bets: Mid-Major Conference Tournament Winners Picks (2023)
Mar 3, 2023 - 6:40 PMWhile major conferences such as the Big East, SEC, and ACC get all of the attention in March, the real value often lies in the little guys. With many already underway and more to begin this weekend, let’s take a closer look at three mid-major conferences I think still have some value in selecting a winner that punches their automatic ticket to the field of 68.

West Coast Conference Tournament Winner
There has never been a necessity to introduce the Zags when the calendar turns to March. Gonzaga has consistently played the best offense in NCAA basketball since losing to Saint Mary’s in overtime on February 4th, heating up at exactly the right time. The Zags are currently playing their best basketball at the ideal time, as evidenced by their 134.1 offensive ratings and 60.3 eFG% over their previous six conference games.
Drew Timme is still working there and is continually attempting to disprove all of the myths around this program. One of the most underestimated players in the entire nation, Julian Strawther has made progress as well, as the athletic 6-foot-7 wing, who is incredibly effective, gives the Zags’ offense a boost.
Bet: Gonzaga (-135)
America East Conference Tournament Winner
In any conference, home court is very important, but this one is especially so with the entire tournament being played in the highest seed’s (in that game) gym. With a 68.1% home winning percentage, America East clubs led all conferences this season in home court being especially important.
No club in the America East was more dominant at home than Vermont, however, which won all eight of its games there. Their 15-point average victory margin was comparable to that of several of the best clubs in the NCAA Tournament field odds.
The Catamounts are well deserving of this low price because they have been undefeated in the final stretch. Expect them to dance for the third time in six years in two weeks.
Bet: Vermont (-150)
Sun Belt Conference Tournament Winner
Louisiana finished the season with an adjusted offensive efficiency that is currently higher than a few D1-A teams, thanks to a potent frontcourt. They struggled in the last six games, going 3-3, but they did defeat Marshall and Southern Miss, the teams they were expected to face in the semifinals and championship game. They have played well in Pensacola, making it to the championship as an eighth seed last year, despite the fact that all five of their conference losses have come on the road.
Bet: Louisiana-Lafayette (+380)
