(2) UCLA vs. (7) Northwestern
Leg 1 – UCLA -7.5 (-104)
The UCLA Bruins don’t have Jaylen Clark anymore. But the defense is still the top defense in the nation, according to KenPom.
The Bruins have held teams to 31.1% from deep and 46.7% from inside the arc. They’ve also earned 23.6% of turnovers and have held teams to 27.5% offensive rebounds.
If there were any questions about this UCLA defense, just look at its opening Tournament game against UNC Asheville. UCLA won 86-53 in their opening matchup and looked absolutely dominant.
Meanwhile, Northwestern has shot only 32.2% from three and 46.8% from inside the arc. The offense has been inconsistent all year and likely won’t be able to match those veteran seniors on UCLA.
The Bruins have added 33.9% of offensive rebounds and shoot at a much higher percentage than Northwestern.
Leg 2 – Over 126.5 (-110)
I’m not in love with Northwestern’s offense. But I’ll admit, they’ve been better recently. The Wildcats added 75 against a very good Boise State defense. So that means something.
I like UCLA to carry this game to the Over with help from Northwestern. What I mean by that is, I like UCLA to score at a high rate and for Northwestern to do enough to help hit this over as well. The Wildcats limiting turnovers will help them earn enough points help this game get Over 126.5.
Leg 3 – Jaime Jacquez Over 16.5 Points (-122)
Jacquez has scored 17.3 points per game this season. But his line is stuck at 16.5.
He scored 17 in just 29 minutes for UCLA in their last game against UNC Asheville. He only had 13 in a defensive battle against Arizona for the Pac-12 Championship. But overall, he’s ranked in the top 500 in offensive rating and usage. He’s also dominate on the offensive glass, which will help him earn second chances and easy points around the rim.
Jacquez has taken at least 17 shots in four of his last six games. If he takes 17 shots, he better score at least 17 points. And he’s not a heavy three-point shooter either. He’ll take shots inside the arc. Those are higher-quality looks that hs should drain. After all, Jacquez has shot 51.7% from inside the arc and should sustain that success in tonight’s game against Northwestern.
