UConn tops Notre Dame for Big East title

Mar 9, 2011 - 4:05 AM Hartford, CT (Sports Network) - Stefanie Dolson finished with a game-high 24 points and nine rebounds as top-ranked UConn topped No. 10 Notre Dame, 73-64, to win the Big East title.

Maya Moore added 22 points while Bria Hartley added 12 points and six boards for the Huskies (32-1), who won their fourth-straight conference title and 21st in 23 years.

Tiffany Hayes added 10 points while Kelly Faris grabbed 10 rebounds in the victory, UConn's 20th-straight.

Natalie Novosel paced Notre Dame (26-7) with 17 points and five boards. Skylar Diggins added 14 points, five boards and five assists and Natalie Anchonwa scored 12 with 10 boards in the loss.

The Huskies took a slim 32-31 lead into the locker room but started the second half on a 20-9 run to put the game away. Moore capped it with a three-pointer at 12:44 and the closest Notre Dame got down the stretch was 58-55.

Novosel made it a one-possession game with a pair from the line at 5:27, but the Huskies responded with a Moore jumper and Dolson layup to silence the Notre Dame comeback.
