Notre Dame makes easy work of No. 14 UNC

Feb 28, 2014 - 4:05 AM South Bend, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - Kayla McBride and Natalie Achonwa made the most of their final regular season home game at the Joyce Center, as the senior stars combined for 52 points in No. 2 Notre Dame's 100-75 victory over 14th-ranked North Carolina on Thursday.

McBride poured in 28 points, Achonwa added 24 and Notre Dame (28-0, 15-0 ACC) completed a perfect home slate and extended its winning streak to 28 games, the program's second longest behind last year's 30-game run.

Jewell Loyd posted a 12-point, 10-rebound double-double for the victors.

Xylina McDaniel and Diamond DeShields led the Tar Heels with 18 and 17 points, respectively. UNC (21-8, 9-6) has dropped two in a row on the heels of a four- game winning streak.

The Irish raced out to a 14-2 lead a little more than three minutes in and had little trouble the rest of the way in posting their eighth win over a ranked opponent this season.
