Quigley, Smith carry DePaul past Rugters

Dec 8, 2006 - 6:44 AM CHICAGO (Ticker) -- Allie Quigley and Caprice Smith opened their conference schedule on a positive note.

Quigley scored a career-best 37 points and Caprice Smith chipped in 20 and a career-high 16 rebounds as No. 20 DePaul posted an 87-73 victory over 21st-ranked Rutgers in the Big East Conference opener for both teams.

A 5-11 guard, Quigley connected on 11-of-20 shots from the floor - including 7-of-11 on 3-pointers - and sank 8-of-10 free throws. She also pulled down five rebounds.

The Blue Devils (6-1, 1-0 Big East), who have won 29 of their last 30 conference home games, shot 44 percent (13-of-29) after intermission. DePaul outscored Rutgers, 43-35, in the second half.

Erin Carney had 12 points and nine rebounds for DePaul, which shot 45 percent (28-of-61) overall and made 12-of-26 from the arc.

Epiphanny Prince scored 19 points to lead five players in double figures for Rutgers (2-4, 0-1), which made a school-record 12 3-pointers.
