Walker, California rally to edge Kansas
Dec 11, 2006 - 12:29 AM LAWRENCE, Kansas (Ticker) -- Ashley Walker scored a season-high 26 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead No. 17 California to a 73-65 triumph over Kansas.Walker shot 9-of-15 from the floor and made 8-of-9 free throws as the Golden Bears (8-1) erased a four-point halftime deficit.
Devanei Hampton scored 11 points, Natasha Vital chipped in 10 off the bench and Lauren Greif hauled in 10 rebounds for California, which is off to its best start in 14 years.
Trailing, 38-34, at the break, Cal was outstanding defensively in the second half. The Golden Bears limited the Jayhawks to just 24 percent (9-of-37) shooting over the final 20 minutes and 32 percent (23-of-27) overall.
Reserve Danielle McCray had 19 points and nine rebounds for Kansas (4-4), which enjoyed a 43-40 edge on the glass.
