Marquette tops Gonzaga, wins ninth straight

Dec 18, 2006 - 12:24 AM MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- Krystal Ellis' big first half kept Marquette surging.

Ellis scored 19 of her 29 points in the first half as the Golden Eagles captured their ninth consecutive win with a 75-60 victory over Gonzaga.

The winning streak tied Marquette's school record, set during the 1991-92 season.

Christina Quaye and Svetlana Kovalenko scored 12 points apiece for the Golden Eagles (10-1), who shot 53 percent (17-of-32) in the first half en route to a 49-32 advantage at the half.

Ellis, the team's leading scorer, shot 9-of-14 from the field and collected four steals.

Stephanie Hawk scored 15 points and Michelle Elliott and Rachel Kane 11 each for the Bulldogs (7-7), who shot 33 percent (24-of-72) in losing for the fourth time in their last five games.
