Stanford rally overtakes Arizona State

Dec 31, 2006 - 9:14 AM PALO ALTO, California (Ticker) -- Candice Wiggins scored 21 points to rally No. 15 Stanford to a 77-71 victory over No. 11 Arizona State.

Wiggins scored 19 of her points in the second half as the Cardinal overcame a 35-28 halftime deficit against their Pac-10 rival.

Brooke Smith had 19 points and 10 rebounds and Jayne Appel added 16 points as Stanford (9-3, 4-0 Pac-10) won its seventh straight game.

The Cardinal shot 56 percent (18-of-32) in the second half and made 16-of-21 free throws to overcome the Sun Devils (12-2, 2-1).

Kirsten Thompson scored 17 points for Arizona State, which made just 1-of-15 3-point attempts and had its eight-game winning streak snapped.
