McCoughtry helps No. 16 Louisville edge Georgetown

Jan 10, 2007 - 4:50 AM WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- Angel McCoughtry proved scoring isn't the only thing she can do.

McCoughtry collected 24 points and 14 rebounds as 16th-ranked Louisville held on for a 57-54 victory over Georgetown in a Big East Conference battle.

Following a lane violation by the Cardinals with 14 seconds left, the Hoyas had a chance to send the contest into overtime. But McCoughtry came up with the game-saving block on Kieraah Marlow's 3-pointer, sealing the win.

McCoughtry has topped the 20-point plateau in five of her last six games, including a 41-point outburst against Eastern Illinois on December 29.

Jazz Covington had 10 points and seven rebounds for Louisville (17-1, 3-1 Big East), which shot 37 percent (21-of-56) from the floor and survived 20 turnovers.

Marlow poured in 21 points and Katrina Wheeler pulled down 11 rebounds for Georgetown (11-6, 1-3), which shot 32 percent (18-of-58) and held a 24-16 advantage in points in the paint.
