Ellis, Marquette bounce back vs. Villanova

Jan 14, 2007 - 4:27 AM MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- Krystal Ellis and Marquette picked a great time to finally break through against Villanova.

Ellis scored 21 points as the 17th-ranked Golden Eagles bounced back from their Big East Conference loss of the season with a 76-70 victory over the Wildcats.

Christina Quaye scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds for Marquette (16-2, 4-1 Big East), which claimed its first victory in three games against Villanova after joining the Big East last season.

With the win, the Golden Eagles bounced back from a 91-87 overtime loss at Pittsburgh on Tuesday that snapped their school-record 14-game winning streak.

Ellis shot 8-of-14 from the field, including a layup that gave Marquette a 66-62 edge with 1:52 remaining. Villanova (7-10, 1-3) got no closer thereafter.

Stacie Witman scored 21 points and Jackie Adamshick added 12 and 12 boards for the Wildcats, who committed 17 turnovers, leading to 21 points for the Golden Eagles. Marquette ended up with just five giveaways.
