Charles, Connecticut power past Notre Dame
Jan 28, 2007 - 3:05 AM STORRS, Connecticut (Ticker) -- Freshman center Tina Charles and Connecticut had their way inside against Notre Dame.Charles collected 12 points on 6-of-7 shooting and 10 rebounds as the fifth-ranked Huskies rolled to a 64-47 Big East Conference victory over the Fighting Irish.
Kalana Greene contributed 10 points and seven rebounds and fellow forward Charde Houston added nine and 10 for the Huskies (18-2, 8-0 Big East), who held a commanding 45-34 advantage on the glass and outscored the Irish in the paint, 30-14.
Connecticut held just a 29-23 advantage at the break but shot 57 percent (12-of-21) from the field in the second half to pull away.
Reserve Erica Williamson scored 12 points and Crystal Erwin added 11 for Notre Dame (13-7, 4-3), which shot just 24 percent overall (16-of-66).
Notre Dame guard Charel Allen had a particularly miserable game, making just 2-of-17 shots and finishing with eight points.
